So, here's a reminder of the back story on Elton. His mother is a sweet Yorkie mix named Diva. Diva found herself in Alabama without a home. It was clear that Diva was going to have some pups soon...and she did. In January she had three little munchkins. The munchkins were named after celebrities. There was Freddie Mercury (think 70's rock band Queen), Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John. Well, all the celebrities have left the building except Mr Elton John.
Keep reading this blog and you'll see some pictures and video of Diva. She's an adorable, petite Yorkie mix. She is a very loving girl. So, Elton obviously has Yorkie in him because of his mom...but what is the rest? We don't know. As is most often the case, the dad is a mystery.
Elton is just shy of three months old. He's about 5.5 pounds and growing by the day. The rule of thumb that I've heard is that the adult weight will be roughly 2x the 4 month weight. So, if he gains another pound in the next month maybe he'll end up being about 13 pounds as an adult. Of course that's an estimate.
He's a happy little guy. He wags his tail and turns in circles whenever I come into the room. When I sit down he's a little shy at first but within a minute he's in my lap, licking my face and nibbling on my nose. I work from home so today I hung out with him while I was trying to get some work done on my laptop. He fell asleep in my lap and it was one of those situations where I needed to get up but I didn't want to for fear of disturbing his peaceful slumber.
Elton's foster mom introduced the pups to potty pads and I've continued to practice here. I'd say he's darn near close to 100% use of the potty pads. It surely makes clean up easy when they know to go in one spot.
He's been very good despite the absence of his brother and sister. I thought he might whine all night long after Elizabeth left but he's been quiet. We really haven't heard much out of him. He sleeps in my daughter's room at night and he sleeps in a crate with the door open. He has access to the pee pads all night. He does use them during the night because in the morning he's left a few little presents on them for me.
With two teen girls and the start of soccer and softball season I am short on time. I will try to add some video to this blog post in the next day or two. In the mean time here are a few pictures from the last couple of days.
Thanks for reading and thanks for thinking rescue! By adopting one there's room for one more to be saved from the kill shelters in Alabama.
